Giving Young People A Future
Tomorrow's People has developed a pioneering approach to improving the job prospects of disadvantaged young people.
Working It Out aims to create real opportunities for 16-24 year olds and make sure they have a stable future in the workplace.
Young people who are not in employment, education or training are among the most vulnerable of all in the jobs market. They face a life moving between short-term, unstable jobs or, worse still, a life on benefit.
Such young people are often on the margins of society and need help with motivation, self-esteem and confidence. Our specialist projects mean we can reach them at a critical time, providing an opportunity to change the course of their lives.
We have designed Working It Out especially for young people who lack family support, basic life skills and educational qualifications. We have moved away from classroom-based provision which does not suit this group and instead encourage involvement, initiative and leadership through working on a community challenge.
Community challenges are central to the programme and a successful way for young people to gain valuable practical work experience they can market to employers. Intensive mentoring and one-to-one support helps young people build a CV and develop skills that are essential to getting work, such as communication and interview skills.
Working It Out has expanded rapidly over the past three years and its projects are based in 10 major UK locations.
