How We Can Help You
What help will I get?
An Employment Adviser will get to know you and give you all the time and help you need to get back to work. Our whole service is based on trust and mutual respect. Your Adviser will take you step by step through the process of getting prepared for the workplace and finding a suitable job.
You will get:
- free, confidential advice
- practical help, for example with a CV and interview skills
- help if you need it to improve your reading, writing and numeracy
- work experience, work trials and/or access to vacancies
- support once you are in a job to help you make a success of it.
What happens first?
What we do depends on you, your needs and your circumstances. As a guide, there are usually three steps to finding work that is right for you:
Step 1
Your Employment Adviser meets you to find out more about you, any work you have done in the past, your skills and qualifications and what types of jobs you are interested in.
Step 2
Your Adviser works with you to put together a personal action plan. This sets out your goals and the action you need to take to reach them.
Step 3
We give you all the practical help you need to get ready to look for work. This will include helping you write or update a CV, write letters or complete forms to apply for jobs, helping you find jobs or training and helping you prepare for interviews.
What happens if I get work?
We will stay in touch and we will continue to support you whilst you settle into your new job.

We help lone parents
We know that as a lone parent, you need a job that fits in with your circumstances. You may also need help to build up your confidence to get back into the workplace, or advice on finding work that fits your situation. Our Employment Advisers can give you the personal help and support you need to find work that is right for you.
We help people on sickness benefits
- We have plenty of experience helping people who have been unemployed through ill health and who want to get back to work.
- You may even be able to get help in the familiar setting of your local GP or health centre. Our Employment Advisers work in GP surgeries and health centres around England and Scotland. If your GP thinks you may benefit from returning to work, an Adviser will work closely with you to help you find a suitable job.
We help ex-offenders on many of our programmes and we run a special project for ex-offenders in Merseyside.
We can help you get back into work if you:
- Live in Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley or Sefton
- Are aged 18 and over
- Have committed an offence and are unemployed, looking for work or training.
You can meet our Employment Adviser one-to-one in any local probation office.
If you are an unemployed ex-offender and live in another area where we deliver services, we would be pleased to help you in your journey back to work.
