A Unique Enterprise
We are creating a unique enterprise community for ex-offenders to gain key skills and work experience. Tomorrow's People is taking a new approach to one group of people who find it hardest to get back to work: those with a criminal record. Drawing on successful projects in the US (Delancey Street) and Italy (San Patrignano), we are establishing a residential community known as The Junction that will be unique in the UK.
The Junction will provide intensive support for men aged over 21 who face serious barriers to employment, including a chaotic lifestyle and a criminal record. Residents including ex-offenders and ex-armed forces personnel will live in the community, learn and train in businesses operated by the project, including catering, grounds maintenance and bed and breakfast.
The Junction aims to ensure that, at the end of a two-year programme, the men taking part will have gained qualifications and skills that are needed by employers in the South East. At the end of their time at The Junction, we will help residents find accommodation and work, giving them a real opportunity to begin a settled life.
The Junction is being developed at the Royal Haslar site at Gosport, Hampshire.
The Junction could save the taxpayer £57 million over 20 years. Estimate by independent consultants Oxford Economics.
